|PENGERTIAN PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE
Sebelum membahas ‘Prepositional Phrase’, harus dipahami dulu apa itu ‘Preposition’. Menurut Oxford Learners' Dictionary, preposisi atau (kata depan dalam Bahasa Indonesia) adalah kata atau kelompok kata yang digunakan sebelum 'noun’ atau pronoun’, untuk menunjukan tempat, posisi dan cara.



Sedangkan ‘Prepositional Phrase’ merupakan suatu susunan kata yang diawali oleh preposisi diikuti oleh ‘object of preposition’, yang berbentuk ‘noun’, ‘noun phrase’, atau ‘pronoun’, atau ‘gerund’.

Contoh:
near the garden 
(preposition: near + noun phrase: the garden)
over the cabinet
with me
in my arm
under your table
before studying



|FUNGSI PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE
Frasa ini memiliki dua berfungsi yaitu sebagai ‘Adverb Phrase’ atau ‘Adjective Phrase’. 


|ADVERB PHRASE
‘Adverb Phrase’ atau frasa kata keterangan adalah kata depan yang berperan sebagai kata keterangan yang berfungsi menerangkan ‘verb’, atau ‘adjective’ dan menjawab pertanyaan (where? why? how? when?). 


Contoh:
Iman is sitting in classroom.
menerangkan verb 'is sitting' dan menjawab pertanyaan "Where is Iman sitting?"

Mother is happy because of you.
menerangkan adjective 'happy' dan menjawab pertanyaan "Why is mother happy?"

Parhan talks to me in a friendly way.
menerangkan verb 'talk' dan menjawab pertanyaan "How does Parhan talks?"

My sister always has breakfast before going to school.
menerangkan verb 'has breakfast' dan menjawab pertanyaan "When does my sister always has breakfast?"



|ADJECTIVE PHRASE
‘Adjective Phrase’ atau frasa kata sifat adalah kata depan yang berperan sebagai kata sifat, yang berfungsi menerangkan ‘noun’ dan menjawab pertanyaan (which one?). 

Contoh:
Thor and Loki are residents of the planet Asgard.
menerangkan noun 'residents' dan menjawab pertanyaan "Which residents?"

The bag on the table is yours.
menerangkan noun 'bag' dan menjawab pertanyaan "Which bag?"

The room below the classroom is used for praying.
menerangkan noun 'room' dan menjawab pertanyaan "Which room?"



|PREPOSITION COMBINATION
Kombinasi preposisi dengan ‘noun’, 'adjective' dan ‘verb’ yang mempunyai preposisi khusus.

Noun + Preposisi
information about, anger at, reasons for, interest in, cause of, access to
Contoh:
He cannot control his anger at work.

Adjective + Preposisi
angry about, good at, surprised by, qualified for, different from, similar to
Contoh:
He is similar to you.

Verb + Preposisi
believe in, care about, decide on, look after, stare at, talk about
Contoh:

He talks about school and hoax.
